Mumbai: It is a known fact that Rani Mukherji is playing a cop for the first time in Aditya Chopra’s Mardaani. And now we hear that the film will arrive right after Ajay Devgn’s cop saga Singham 2.

A source confirms, saying, “Ajay’s Singham 2 releases on August 15 while Mardaani is slated to arrive exactly a week after, on August 22.” Only a year-and-a-half ago, Ajay Devgn and Aditya Chopra were at loggerheads at the box office when Son of Sardaar collided with Jab Tak Hai Jaan. They had even gotten themselves into a war of words.

“One hopes nothing similar happens this time round. Both are major films and belong to the same genre, targeting the same audience group. While Ajay had announced his plans for Singham 2 quite some time ago, Mardaani’s development is a recent one,” says an industry insider.

Incidentally, both the lead actors are playing Maharashtrian cops in their respective films. While Ajay’s name in Singham is Bajirao, Rani is plays the character of Shivani Shivaji Rao in Mardaani.

At least, the films are not clashing on the same day, else there would have been a full-fledged war. But one cop chasing the other is no less exciting.
