East Godavari Kapus shift loyalty; to support YSRC
Kakinada: The Kapu community, dominant in the two Godavari districts, is reconsidering its decision to support the Telugu Desam in view of the latest political developments.
According to sources, the YSR Congress has endeared itself to the Kapu community by selecting to field more than 10 Kapus in the East Godavari district alone. Sources said that in other districts also the party has given importance to the community.
The TD, on the other hand, has announced only three seats for the Kapu community in the district till now. The YSRC has given Tuni ticket to Dadisetty Raja, Prathipadu ticket to Varupula Subba Rao (former MLA), Jaggampet ticket to Jytohula Nehru, Pithapuram ticket to Pendem Dorababu (former MLA), Peddapuram ticket to Thota Subba Rao Naidu, son of former MLA late Thota Gopalakrishna, Rajahmundry Rural ticket to Akula Veerraju (Kapu Nadu leader), Rajanagaram ticket to Jakkampudi Vijayalakshmi (wife of former minister Jakkampudi Rammohan Rao), and Kakinada LS ticket to Chalamalasetty Sunil.
Though the Rampachodavaram segment is alloted to the Schedule Tribes, YSRC candidate Anantha Udaya Bhaskar is having close relations with upland Kapu community.
All these candidates except Sunil and Jyothula Nehru, are close aides of late Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy and also those leaders who joined the party after the closure of Praja Rajyam. They are extending support to Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy since his Odarpu Yatra.
