New Delhi: War of words continues unabate between Union minister Jairam Ramesh and BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi. The Union minister on Monday claimed that “even by mistake, he doesn’t expect Mr Modi to speak the truth.”
His response came in the backdrop of the Gujarat Chief Minister having accused him of demeaning the country abroad.
In a letter to Mr Modi, the Congress leader said, “I know you make outrageous statements and even by your standards your accusation against me is bizarre. Just for the record, I have said that India deserves Nobel Prize for filth. I said this in Delhi four years ago. I still believe it.”
Stating that he was not expecting a reply from the Gujarat CM, Mr Ramesh explained that he wrote the letter so that he could set the record straight. He accused Mr Modi of spreading blatant lie.
The Union minister addressed the BJP’s PM candidate as “My dear Shri Narendra Modi,” which, incidentally, is an improvement, as he always addressed Gujarat CM as “Shri Narendra Modi” only.
The Union minister shot off the letter a day after Mr Modi in a rally at Chikmagalur in Karnataka attacked Mr Ramesh in connection with his remark made four years ago. “Nowadays, there is a minister in Congress, who has studied in a foreign country and was born in Chikmagalur. He says India is the dirtiest and laziest country. What type of a son is he of Mother India. He goes to a foreign land, eats food in his aunt’s house and starts abusing his mother (India),” Mr Modi had said in the rally.
