Devotees throng temples on Tamil New Year day

In Tiruchirapalli, the idol of Lord Ranganatha was taken out in procession in a chariot

Madurai: Thousands of devotees offered prayers in temples at various places in the state, including the famous Meenakshi temple and Koodal Alagar temples on Monday to celebrate Tamil New year day and 'Chithirai Vishu.

Temples of Lord Muruga at Palani, Tiruchendur and Tiruparankundram remained open since early morning and special abhishekams were also performed.

The HR&CE Minister Senthoor Pandian was among hundreds of devotees who offered worship at Tiruchendur. There was special display of fruits and vegetables in the first enclosure of the temple.

In Srirangam temple near Tiruchirapalli, the idol of Lord Ranganatha was taken out in procession in a chariot around the streets. The car festival was delayed by three hours due to heavy rush of devotees.
