13 year old drowns in Hyderabad

Suspicious death case has been registered

Hyderabad: A Class V student accidentally drowned in the Chalama well at Shivpuri Colony. The victim, Sai Kiran, had been missing since Saturday evening. He went to swim alone without informing anyone at home.

He drowned when he got into the water, which was deep enough. A local found his body floating and alerted the police.

Sai Kiran, 13, was a student at a government school and a resident of DSR Nagar, Fathullaguda in Nagole. His father, Rajashekhar, is an autorickshaw driver.
According to the police, on Saturday evening around 4 pm, Sai went to the well, locally called as 'thelma bavi'.

“He went there without informing his parents. The well is about 10-feet deep and 20-feet broad. We suspect he may have been drowned as he didn’t know how to swim,” said LB Nagar SI, D. Vijay.

On Sunday at 6 am, his body was found by a local who alerted the police.

“We found his clothes and slippers on the bank and his body floating in water. We fished it out after a rescue operation that lasted about an hour. A suspicious death case under Section 174 of the CrPC was registered and is being investigated,” said Mr. Vijay.

Locals informed the police that on Saturday evening when some of them asked him where he was going, Sai Kiran said that he was going for a swim. They said he was hesitant when questioned if he knew how to swim.

His body was shifted to Gandhi Hospital and handed over to his parents after post-mortem.
