Shanimol may get a new post in party
Thiruvananthapuram: Former AICC secretary Shanimol Usman, who was denied a Lok Sabha seat in the state, is likely to be accommodated in a suitable post by the AICC by June. She is peeved about the Congress leadership not explaining the reasons for not fielding her, who has put in three decades of service for the Congress, in the elections. She is, however, happy that Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi spoke to her when he was on poll tour at Chengannur, Alappuzha, recently.
Shanimol, 46, had stepped down from the AICC secretary post after she expressed her desire to contest the Lok Sabha polls last year. But only two women candidates, Bindu Krishna and K. A. Sheeba were given seats in Attingal and Alathur respectively. In 2009, she had declined to fight from Kasargod which forced the KPCC to field Shahida Kamal who was defeated by the CPM candidate.
“KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran or a party spokesperson should have explained why people like me and P. T. Thomas were denied seats. When Rahulji came to Kerala I was campaigning in Chalakkudy and he asked me to reach Chengannur where he spoke to me and pacified me. I had neither any expectations nor was I desperate,” said Shanimol who was the first woman AICC secretary from Kerala.
