Rahul Gandhi is ready for Prime Ministers' post
New Delhi: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has said that if his party MPs elect him for the Prime Minister’s post, he would not hesitate to accept the responsibility. In an interview to TV channel Aaj Tak, Mr Gandhi also hit out at BJP PM candidate Narendra Modi’s Gujarat model, saying that it favoured only a few industrialists whose assets grew from Rs 3,000 crore to Rs 40,000 crore in a short span of time.
The Congress vice-president attacked Mr Modi in the interview, saying he gave land at throwaway prices to an industrialist. Mr Gandhi is believed to have been referring to Gautam Adani of Adani group.
Mr Gandhi claimed, “He had been given land equal to the size of Vadodara at throwaway prices and also the Gujarat coastline of the size of the Mumbai coastline. Do you know for how much? For Rs 300 crore.” However, when asked specifically whether he was referring to the Adani group, he said he would not like to name anybody. When asked why the Congress had not named its PM candidate, Mr Gandhi said that it was against the constitution of the party.
“But if the party MPs elect me for the post of PM, I can assure you that I will not hesitate in accepting the offer. I rather feel that I am a kind of servant of the country. I am here to serve the people,” he said.
The Congress vice-president, when asked if the party’s campaign was not matching that of the BJP, claimed that Mr Modi’s campaign is a “marketing blitz”.
