Varun Gandhi on wrong path, says cousin Priyanka; aunt Maneka says 'let country decide'
New Delhi: BJP leader Maneka Gandhi on Sunday lashed out at Priyanka Gandhi over her reported remarks that her son Varun Gandhi had gone "astray", saying the country will decide who has gone on the wrong path.
"If he has gone astray while serving the country, the country will decide," Maneka said when asked for her reaction about Priyanka's comment.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has also objected to Priyanka's remark, saying, "Congress is insecure about Varun Gandhi's popularity. The language used by Priyanka was inappropriate."
Earlier on Saturday, Priyanka attacked Varun Gandhi saying, “He (Varun Gandhi) is definitely from my family, he is my brother. But he has gone astray.”
“When a young one in the family chooses the wrong path, then the elders show them the right path, the right way. I urge all of you to show my brother the right path,” Priyanka said as she addressed Congess workers in Varun Gandhi's constituency Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh.
Priyanka and her mother Congress President Sonia Gandhi had accompanied Rahul Gandhi in Amethi as he filed his nomination, seeking a third consecutive term from the Lok Sabha constituency.

Varun will be up against Amita Singh of Congress, wife of Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, who had won from the seat in 2009.
Priyanka's attack on Varun comes less than two weeks after the BJP leader had praised Rahul's work in Amethi following which Maneka Gandhi slammed Varun.
