Can’t make time for a vacation? Trick is to have one, everyday
Follow these tips to keep yourself relaxed even through your busy schedule
A lot has been written about growing stress in our daily lives and the need for one to slow down. But that, unfortunately, is not possible for everyone and holiday season is the worst time to drive home that point. Can’t make time for a vacation? Trick is to have one, everyday
Indulge in holiday type of activities
One of the most important reasons why people go on a holiday is to unwind from the vagaries of life and slow down the rampant pace of a work-home-work schedule. Once you’ve come to terms with the fact that you’re not going to get that holiday that you need, it’ll serve you well to move on.
At the end of each day, try and do the one thing that you would’ve wanted to do on the holiday. Go for a swim? Walk down the beach? Read a short story? Take your pick. Don’t save up activities to do on your holiday. Start on them today. Life’s too short to put things off for later.
Catch up with your partner, friends
Despite the bombardment of social media in our lives, many people struggle to catch up with their friends and relatives. We may still try and meet those people we haven’t met in a long time but the most important catching up you need to do is with the person you live with.
Your partner may know your daily schedule but they may not always be privy to what’s going on in your head. What’s worse, you may be completely oblivious to what’s eating them hollow. A holiday may have given you more time with your partner but that doesn’t mean your communication ends when the vacation does.
Enjoy small doses of shopping
You do not have to turn into an irresponsible shopaholic, but you could ease those purse strings a bit. People tend to be more generous on a holiday than on a regular, mundane day in the city. Splurge on yourself and your partner from time to time, and you’ll realise how such things work as great mood lifters. Why wait to go on a holiday to buy a cologne you can easily buy from the mall near your house?
It need not be a gift to yourself but small doses of retail therapy go a long way in keeping that smile on your face. Just remember that the line between sensible shopping and inability to stop splurging is only too fine.
You can sex things up a bit
A holiday also tends to guarantee you uninterrupted sex, especially since you’re more than willing to dangle the “Do Not Disturb” tag outside the door. When you live with in-laws or children, it isn’t so easy to keep people out of your personal space, no matter how loud your hints are. Every few days (and the frequency is totally based on your own preferences), take some time out just for sex.
Whether it means reading eroctica together, talking dirty or just a quiet romp session — dedicate some time to sex. After all, if there’s food time, work time and baby time, there should be sex time.
Let go of yourself sometimes
One of the worst things serial dieters could do is let a weekend of gluttony undo the effort of the previous five days of sacrifice. People tend to let go of diet plans while on a holiday, in the belief that they will get back to work and knock themselves back to shape. Instead, why not enjoy the occasional extra drink or the second helping of a chocolate mousse cake? Half of our stresses will be reduced if we just let go a little and embrace what life throws at us.
Saving for a holiday doesn’t have to mean we stop having fun while the chips are down. Having a good time is easier than you think.
