DMDK supports PMK in Pondicherry
The BJP’s decision to support Rangasamy Congress in Pondy did not find favour with allies
Chennai: In a further embarrassment to BJP led NDA in the state, DMDK, its yet another ally, on Friday announced its support for PMK’s candidate R.K.R. Anantharaman in Puducherry for the April 24 Lok Sabha polls.
DMDK chief Vijayakanth’s announcement ends suspense over its stand in the Union Territory where two NDA allies have fielded their candidates. “DMDK has decided to support PMK candidate R.K.R. Anandharaman in Puducherry for the Lok Sabha polls,” Vijayakanth said in a statement here, even as it had reportedly earlier decided to maintain neutrality. The PMK is part of the NDA in TN but fielded its candidate in Puducherry after BJP struck an alliance with the ruling AINRC.
Vijayakanth’s gesture indicates the new bonhomie between the erstwhile archrivals DMDK and PMK who clashed over choice of Lok Sabha seat including Salem and Tiruvannamalai during their negotiations with BJP. After striking an alliance with the saffron party, DMDK chief Vijayakanth campaigned for PMK candidates and as a reciprocal gesture PMK leader Anbumani campaigned for DMDK’s L.K. Sudhish in Salem. PMK president G. K. Mani thanked DMDK, MDMK, KMDK, IJK and New Justice party for extending their support to his party’s candidate in Puducherry
