Rebel trouble gives parties a headache

Political parties in Telangana try to woo rebel candidates
Hyderabad: Major political parties in Telangana are facing an uphill task convincing rebel candidates to withdraw from the fray.
In Telangana, the Congress, the TRS, Telugu Desam and BJP are facing rebel candidates in as many as 50 Assembly constituencies. The alliance between the TD and the BJP is one of the main factors behind the rise of the rebels.
The Congress is contesting from 122 Assembly constituencies in Telangana, where it is facing rebel candidates in 20 segments. The TD is contesting in 72 constituencies and is facing rebels in at least 15 segments. The TRS too also facing rebels in 10 segments while the BJP is facing rebels in more than 10 Assembly segments.
With only two days left for withdrawal of nominations, the main political parties are busy with convincing the rebels to withdraw.
Telangana PCC president Ponnala Laxmaiah and Union minister Jairam Ramesh and other leaders on Thursday met the rebel candidates. Mr Laxmaiah assured to give them due importance after the Congress came to power if they withdrew.
In Narsampet in Warangal district and in Thungathurthy in Nalgonda, where the Congress changed candidates, those who were dropped from the first list have become rebels.
Though the Maheswaram Assembly segment was allotted to the CPI, Congress candidate, former MLA Malreddy Ranga Reddy filed his nomination.
In other segments too where the CPI was allotted seats, Congress rebels have joined the fray.
Mr Laxmaiah said that Mr Ranga Reddy had been given a conditional B form and if the CPI contested from this constituency, the Congress candidate would withdraw.
