New Delhi: Though stray incidents of violence were reported from Naxal-affected areas, including in Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Jharkhand, voter turnout witnessed a significant increase compared to the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.
Bihar, where six seats saw voting, registered 55 per cent voter turnout, a massive increase from 41.6 per cent in 2009. Similarly, in Jharkhand, where four seats went to the polls, turnout was recorded at 58 per cent, up from 50.8 per cent last time.
Among the states, Kerala registered the highest voter turnout with 73.4 per cent voters exercising their franchise. EC officials, however, maintained that the percentage in the state might rise further.
The turnout in all the three UTs that went to the polls was impressive. In other states, voting was mostly peaceful, leading to a high voter turnout.
