Balaram Naik may have a cakewalk
Hyderabad: It will be a cakewalk for Union minister of state Balaram Naik if the election authorities reject the nomination of TRS candidate Sitaram Naik.
The fate of the TRS candidate hangs in the balance as the Returning Officer, Ms Pausumi Basu deferred her decision till Friday. “There are certain complaints against the nomination which are still under scrutiny,” Ms Basu told this newspaper. A final decision will be taken on Friday, she added.
The Union minister lodged a complaint with the RO that the TRS candidate, Mr Naik, a lecturer by profession, did not resign his post. Mr Naik has argued that there was no need to resign as he is working in an autonomous institution.
Former minister Komatireddy Venkata Reddy also faced some anxious moments when a rival TRS candidate complained that he had furnished false information about his educational qualification. Mr Reddy did not complete his engineering degree but wrote B.E. in brackets in the column on educational qualification.
“It is a fact that I did not complete my engineering course and that is why I am putting it in brackets,” was Mr Venkata Reddy’s justification. The Returning Officer approved the nomination.
The nominations of six YSR Congress candidates were rejected. They are: G. Jayapal (Bhongir), Sankar (Asifabad), Nagorao (Khanapur), Kusumakumar Reddy (Medchal), A. Rahaman (Gadwal) and Sunil Kumar (Nalgonda).
The BJP took the Husnabad seat as part of its alliance with the TD but the nomination of its official candidate, D. Sri-nivasa Rao, was rejected. The nominations of some of the rebel candidates were also rejected.
, which provided some relief to the official candidates.
