Mumbai: Greatly influenced by the socialist Ram Manohar Lohia and his struggle to bring social upliftment, Mulayam Singh Yadav joined politics in 1960. Netaji, as he is fondly called by his party workers and supporters, is a post graduate in Arts from Agra University. A veteran politicial and socialist, Mulayam Singh has faught a number of elections, at the state level and the national level, and have won quite many of them.
The Samajwadi Party leader has held the Chief Minister Office of Uttar Pradesh thrice, and has also served as the Union Defence Minister (1996-98).
