Elections 2014: Generation next clash at Chevella constituency

Sons, grandsons of heavyweight politicians contesting

Hyderabad: It will be an interesting fight between sons and grandsons of heavyweight politicians in the Chevella Lok Sabha constituency. Contesting candidates from major political parties like Congress, TD, TRS and YSRC hail from popular political families.

While Konda Vishweshwar Reddy is contesting on a TRS ticket, his cousin Konda Raghava Reddy has been fielded by the YSRC. Both are 54 and grandsons of former deputy chief minister Mr K.V. Ranga Reddy of the Congress after whom the Ranga Reddy district has been named.

P. Karthik Reddy, son of former home minister Sabita Indra Reddy of Congress, and T. Veerender Goud, son of former home minister T. Devender Goud of Telugu Desam too are in the fray from Congress and TD respectively from Chevella Lok Sabha seat. Both are 31 years old. There are nearly 22 lakh voters in this constituency.

Mr Konda Vishweshwar Reddy said that he was against dynasty politics and that even the voters’ mindset has changed and they are looking for development-oriented candidates.

“I am a business professional and I am satisfied with what I have achieved professionally. TRS president Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao convinced me on the need to enter politics to achieve a T-state.The development of Telangana state needed to be put on a proper track,” he said.

Reacting sharply to the word “dynasty” politics, Mr Konda Raghava Reddy said that he had been in politics for over two decades and was one of the founding members of the TRS.

“I came out of TRS following differences with Mr Chandrasekhar Rao. My grandfather was in the Congress and now I am in YSRCP, as such no one can attach the ‘dynasty politics’ phrase on me,” he said.

Mr P. Karthik Reddy, meanwhile, pointed out that his family had served the people for the last 35 years.

“My father P. Indra Reddy, then my mother Sabita Indra Reddy and now I am going to continue serving people. The electorate do not give their votes for dynasty politics. Those times are gone,” he said.

Mr T. Veerender Goud said that Being the son of a heavyweight politician is only an added advantage but only development and vision to take people forward will get votes for you.
