Seema Khan, the fashionista behind Tinsel town creations

Sohail Khan's wife Seema likes to make her own statement, designing for Tinsel townies
Hyderabad: She has had no formal training in design. But a natural flair for the art, coupled with the exposure to her father’s garment export business as a child is what led celebrity fashion designer Seema Khan to take to her sartorial interests professionally. “It’s all about your flair for design. You either have it or you don’t,” says Seema.
“Designing is a technique of expressing creativity through craftsmanship. It is either inherited or learnt through persistent training. Styling came to forefront in my earlier days as I played with colours and trends in my father’s office. As I grew up I decided to turn my hobby and inclination into a profession by launching my label Seema Khan,” she adds.
Seema, who is married to actor-producer Sohail Khan has designed for the likes of Tinsel townies such as Gauri Khan, Neelam Kothari, Rhea Pillai, Sussanne Roshan and Preity Zinta to name a few, but her favourite muse remains her sister-in-law and actress, Malaika Arora Khan.
“Malaika is the coolest and the most understanding person. I have been designing her clothes since a very long time now. She is gorgeous and carries off anything with great flair. Malaika and I have a great rapport and she is the easiest to work with,” she says. The chemistry is evident in the way the two work, with Malaika being the face of most of her creations.
While she is used to designing glamourous outfits for most of her celebrity clientele, Seema maintains that her personal style isn’t all that flamboyant.
“My personal sense of style is simplicity with elegance. I love to combine feminine elements with minimalism for my personal wardrobe,” says Seema who has recently launched her spring-summer collection, Summer Tide.
Elaborating on it she says, “The Summer Tide Collection is high on style and wearable at the same time. It is especially designed for stylish women on the go who love to experiment with different colours and cuts.”
Does she also work closely with her husband, we ask. “I have nothing to do with his business ventures. We have our respective careers and only give each other our opinions when required,” she says. But when Seema is not working, she is spending time with her family.
“After a hard day’s work you can find me lounging in my pyjamas and spending time with my kids and getting some good food at home. Spending time with my family is therapeutic,” says Seema.
