Renuka Chowdary forces Kantha Rao to quit Congress
Hyderabad: Congress MP Renuka Chowdary created a stir in Congress circles in Khammam district on Tuesday, which led to the resignation of Congress MLA R. Kantha Rao from the party who claimed that the post of the Khammam DCC president was taken back from him an hour after he was named to the post.
A Congress MLA from Pinapaka in Khammam district, Mr Kantha Rao was angry that the Assembly seat had been allotted to the CPI as part of the seat adjustment between the two parties. To pacify him, the Congress gave him the Khammam DCC president’s post after incumbent Vanama Venkateswar Rao resigned from the par-ty and joined the YSRC on Tuesday.
However, Ms Chowdary demanded that the Khammam DCC president’s post be given to Lambadas. When the Congress leadership gave in to her demand, Mr Kantha Rao met Ponnala Laxmaiah, the Telangana PCC president, and submitted his resignation.
Union minister Balaram Naik then forced Mr Kantha Rao to meet Mr Lakshmaiah and retract his resignation, which has not been accepted as yet.
Ms Chowdary also landed up at Mr Lakshmaiah’s residence to make a pitch for her candidate. Mr Naik and Ms Chowdary reportedly had a heated arguement in Mr Lakshmaiah presence.
Ms Chowdary expressed her dissatisfaction at the selection of candidates in Khammam district and demanded that Mr Lakshmaiah give the Khammam DCC president’s post to Lambadas.
Mr Kantha Rao told the media that he will join any party that gives him a chance or contest from Pinapaka as an independent candidate.
