Three jawans, Two militants killed in J&K encounter
SRINAGAR: Three security personnel and two militants were killed and seven others, including a woman, injured in a 20-hour long gunfight in Chowkibal area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Tuesday.
Police and Army officials said that based on intelligence infromation, a joint operation was launched in Gund Zoonareshi village of Chowkibal on April 7. Soon, gun battle started between a group of militants hiding in a private house and the security forces in which Naib Subedar Kakanvari, a JCO of Army’s 9 Para regiment, two policemen head constable of local police’s SOG Mohammad Shafi and constable Riyaz Ahmad and two militants were killed.
Police claimed the slain militants were members of Lashkar-e-Tayyaba and huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from the encounter site.
A woman, two jawans and four policemen are among the injured, reports said. Police sources said the injured woman Shahmali Begum is the wife of the owner of the house in which militants were hiding.
In another incident, suspected militants critically injured a policeman and decamped with his service rifle in of Anantnag town.
