Elections 2014: Campaigning for 3rd phase ends, 2nd phase polls on Wednesday
New Delhi: Campaigning came to a close for the third phase of polling as the national capital region and riot-hit Muzaffarnagar get ready for third phase on April 10. On Wednesday polling will take place in six constituencies spread across four North-Eastern states in round two of the nine-phase elections.
Elections to the sole Lok Sabha seat in Mizoram was postponed to April 11 on Tuesday following a state-wide bandh called against exercise of franchise by Bru voters lodged in Tripura camps through postal ballots.
In Arunachal Pradesh, simultaneous elections will be held for 49 of the 60 Assembly seats.
In the third phase of the polls, interesting contests are expected on the Delhi’s seven Lok Sabha seats which are seeing a triangular contest between the BJP, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party.
The Congress, which had won all the seven seats in 2009 polls, is trying to regain its lost ground following its severe drubbing in the assembly polls. Prominent Congress candidates in fray include Union Minister Kapil Sibal, party general secretary Ajay Maken and Sandeep Dikshit, son of former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit.
One of the most keenly observed contest will be in Ghaziabad which sees BJP’s Gen. V.K. Singh squaring up against Congress’ Raj Babbar and AAP's Shazia Ilmi.
Sitting BSP MP Kadir Rana, who is also an accused in Muzaffarnagar riots, and Sanjiv Baliya of BJP are in the fray from Muzaffarnagar Lok Sabha constituency.
