KCR vows to weed out corruption

Rao said his government would ensure “unprecedented” growth and development in Telangana

Hyderabad: Taking a dig at the “forced” alliance between the Telugu Desam and the BJP, TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday promised to weed out political corruption and promised 100 per cent unprecedented development of Telangana if the TRS was voted to power.

“Both Andhra Naidus, Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu and BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu, forced an alliance between the two parties despite protests from their party men. They are trying their best to have a presence in Telangana at any cost,” he said.

Mr Rao had a busy day on Monday with several leaders, including Nizamabad Urban TD in-charge S.A. Aleem and ex municipal vice-chairman Chandram, joining the TRS in his presence.

“We need good governance. If a minister or chief minister loots hundreds and thousands of crores how can you expect good governance? Ponnala says KCR is selling dreams. Yes, I did. In 2001, I raised the Telangana issue when people like him dismissed it as fiction. Today we have achieved it. Even to travel 10,000 km you need to take the first step,” he said.

Stating that the Congress and the Telugu Desam, which had ruled the state for 60 years, had neglected Telangana in all aspects, he asserted that the new Telangana state required a new government, which could fulfil the needs of the people.

“Who is responsible for the ills facing Telangana? Is it not Congress and Telugu Desam who ruled the state for 60 years? Power cuts, weavers’ hunger deaths and youth migrating to Gulf in search of employment continue even today. Why? When you know a mistry did a shoddy job in the construction of your house, you will replace him. Congress and TD are the bad mistries and they have to go,” he said.

A TRS government would ensure “unprecedented” growth and development in Telangana, he promised. “You need to vote for a new good government. I am content with achieving Telangana in my lifetime. I want to see a smile on the faces of 85 per of SCs, STs, BCs and minorities,” he added.

Stating that he had 35 years experience in politics, having held pivotal positions at the Centre and state, Mr Rao pointed out that the only way to develop the new state was to bury political corruption.
