Elections 2014: Chandrababu Naidu appeals for support
Hyderabad: Releasing the first list of candidates for the Lok Sabha and Assembly nominees for Telangana on Monday, Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu appealed to upset partymen to extend support to the Telugu Desam-BJP alliance. The seat sharing between the two parties due to the alliance has left several aspiring candidates from both parties out in the cold.
Mr Naidu released the first list of 27 Assembly and three Lok Sabha candidates for Telangana. The first list of Seemandhra Assembly and Lok Sabha nominees will be announced on Wednesday.
Mr Naidu has given tickets to several party leaders, including women and sitting members, who stood by the party. He retained sitting Lok Sabha member Ramesh Rathod (Adilabad). More names of nominees will be announced on Tuesday.
“Alliances are nothing new. It is inevitable. Party workers and leaders should understand this. It will be a win-win situation. I understand there is pent up emotion as some may not get the chance to contest,” Mr Naidu said.
The TDP chief said that a TDP-BJP alliance is “in the interests of the state, nation and Telugus.”
“We will certainly compensate those who could not get tickets and lost seats in the alliance. They need not be crestfallen,” he pleaded.
Mr Naidu claimed that people were keen on a win for the BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi and the TDP had joined the NDA to strengthen Mr Modi’s hands.
Asked about the continuing protests over some seats, he admitted that there were problems in some constituencies like Khammam, Adilabad and Mahbubnagar. He said they would be sorted by Tuesday.
