Chief Secy to quit on June 2

The CS had earlier announced that he did not wish to continue in the post after his retirement

Hyderabad: Chief Secretary Dr P.K. Mohanty has urged Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan to relieve him of his duties one month in advance. The Centre had extended Mr Mohanty’s term till the end of July. However, the two new states would come into effect on June 2, the Appointed Day.

The CS had earlier announced that he did not wish to continue in the post after his retirement on February 28. But, he stayed on after the Centre extended his term.

“There will be two states as well as two CS positions. I don’t want to block the chances of other senior officers,” Dr Mohanty said adding that his request has been accepted. His new decision came at a time when there were rumours that he may opt for the Andhra Pradesh cadre if the TD returned to power and extend his stay by two more months.

Meanwhile, the state employees will get the salary for May well in advance. The finance department on Monday issued orders asking all the heads of departments to disburse salary on May 24 instead of June 2.
