Chennai gets new Police Commissioner
Chennai police commissioner S. George has been replaced by J. K. Tripathy
Chennai: Chennai police commissioner S. George has been replaced by J. K. Tripathy, presently ADGP, prisons. They are virtually switching their jobs in a small shuffle by the state home department, following a directive from the Election Commission to transfer Mr George perhaps due to his perceived closeness to the AIADMK government. In fact, he had taken over the city police command from Mr Tripathy in September 2012 when the latter was moved out after a Muslim protest against an American short film on the Prophet turned violent targeting the US consulate.
Police sources said the change at the prestigious Greater Chennai police was “just for the purpose of the election” and Mr George would most likely return to his desk there.
