Lee, Wang battle it out to win the India Open

Overcome their opponents in a tough encounter to win the final

New Delhi: Malaysian world no. 1 Lee Chong Wei once again asserted his supremacy over familiar Chinese opponent Chen Long as he clinched his third men’s singles title at the Yonex Sunrise India Open Super Series badminton here on Sunday. In a rematch of the All England final, crowd favourite Lee prevailed over his younger competitor 21-13, 21-17 in 55 minutes, as thousands of spectators at the Siri Fort Sport Complex here went berserk.

Meanwhile in an all Chinese women’s final, second seed Wang Shixian overcame Olympic champion Li Xuerui 22-20, 21-19, to continue her impressive run this season.
Lee, the All England champion, relied on his experience to beat Chen, who tried to match the top seed but faltered at crucial moments. Both the shuttlers wooed the crowd with their repertoire of strokes, with Lee dominating in all sections.

In the doubles, Denmark clinched the men’s gold. Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen came back from a game down to defeat China’s third seeds Liu Xiaolong and Qiu Zihan 17-21, 21-15, 21-15.
