Rush on for Congress tickets in Hyderabad

Four leaders lobbying for the Musheerabad ticket.
Hyderabad: Despite the Congress leadership making it clear that sitting MLAs would not be disturbed, aspirants are exerting pressure on the party for tickets from Musheerabad, Uppal, Malkajgiri and Secunderabad Assembly segments.
In the 2009 polls, Congress candidates had won from all the four segments. The seat in highest demand is Musheerabad with leaders like former mayor Banda Kartika Reddy, APCC state general secretary Abid Rasool Khan, M. Vikram Goud who is the son of former minister M. Mukesh Goud, and Anil Kumar Yadav, the son of Secunderabad MP Anjan Kumar Yadav of the Congress, are all lobbying for the ticket.
The reason for aspirants intensifying the lobbying for Musheerabad seat is that sitting MLA, T. Manemma, has reportedly asked the party leadership to consider her son for the seat instead of her. “When the sitting member is not contesting, then the seat is open for all Congress workers,” said a senior leader from the party.
It is the same case with Uppal, Secunderabad and Malkajgiri. While Malkajgiri has emerged a hot favourite among the aspirants after sitting Congress MLA Akula Rajender recently joined TRS, the demand for the Uppal seat has reached a height after news spread that sitting MLA Raji Reddy was seeking a ticket for his younger brother in his place due to health reasons.
The Secunderabad Assembly segment is being sought by Ms Banda Kartika Reddy, who is also willing to contest from any Assembly segment or Lok Sabha seat the party gives her. Congress corporator Ms Adam Uma Devi also wants to contest from the Secunderabad Assembly seat.
Likewise, Mr Adam Santosh Kumar is seeking the Malkajgiri Assembly segment.
Demand for Assembly seats like Amberpet, Kukatpally and Rajendernagar, where the Congress had not won last time, is also high.
“It is common in the Congress to have more than half-a-dozen serious contestants from each Assembly segment. Yes, we want to win Amberpet, Kukatpally and Rajendernagar Assembly seats this time and we are working out our strategies. Local surveys are being conducted in each of the Assembly segment and based on them, the candidates will be given tickets. Sitting legislators will always have priority,” the leader added.
