Metro leaves no space for pedestrians in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: The ongoing Metro Rail work at Parade Grounds in Secunderabad has badly affected pedestrians and commuters. The footpath alongside the Parade Grounds has been removed to facilitate the construction of the Metro Rail.
Commuters have no option but to suffer this inconvenience as they are compelled to frequent the place to catch their share cabs and buses.
Anita Pote, a school teacher, who takes a bus to Alwal, said, “We have no option but to wait inside the construction site. The buses and cabs only stop here.”
To add to the woes of the commuters and pedestrians, the worksite spills on to the road and considerably narrows the carriageway on the busy road.
Welding is carried out at night when the rush of commuters is not intense. There is no electric work in the morning. But construction activity continues at all hours and the place is milling with workers and guards. Some signboards cautioning people of danger and the ongoing work have been removed to make space for commuters.
The traffic police finds it difficult to monitor the vehicles as there is a u-turn ahead. Besides, the area has scores of buses and thousands of vehicles coming from Begumpet, Karkhana road and moving towards Secunderabad and Uppal.
IT manager Umesh Shah said, “We are dropped at Parade Grounds after our shifts end and from there we hire a share cab or board a bus to our homes in Alwal. While the Metro works are important, some arrangements should have been made for the regular commuters who use this footpath.”
