Pickpockets now target techies in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: IT professionals are at the mercy of pickpockets and thieves on the prowl in the IT corridor in Madhapur and surrounding areas.
The item most coveted by the thieves are the high end mobile phones carried by the techies. The Madhapur police has received several complaints recently from the hapless victims.
In the last week the police officials have busted two gangs and arrested six offenders. Two of the pick-pockets were autorickshaw drivers who ply in the IT corridor.
“The pick-pockets have a specific modus operandi. One of them drives the autorickshaw and when an IT professional gets in, the rest sit beside him and steal his mobile. Once the job is done, they signal the driver, who then stops the vehicle and says he cannot go further since the police are checking vehicles ahead. They force the victim to get down and flee from the area before he realises that his phone has been stolen,” said Madhapur police inspector K. Narasimhulu.
The culprits also come on bikes and snatch the phones of people walking along the road and using their mobiles. The Madhapur police has also arrested the receiver of the stolen goods, who runs a mobile phone shop at Bada Bazar in Yakutpura.
Cyberabad officials said that IT professionals should be careful about their belongings when they use share autorickshaws.
