‘Teetotaller’ director caught driving drunk
Hyderabad: Tollywood filmmaker and screenwriter B.V.S. Ravi was booked for drunk driving by the traffic cops late on Friday night. He was stopped near Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan at Jubilee Hills.
Traffic police personnel even photographed Ravi with a breath analyser BAC reading of 41. However, Ravi later claimed that he was a teetotaller and said the issue was “blown out of proportion by the media.”
Traffic police said, Ravi’s Fiat Linea was stopped at Jubilee Hills. Actors Ravi Teja and Srinivasa Reddy were with him in the car. Ravi was checked for drunk driving and was found to have a BAC of 41. The permissible level of alcohol in the body while driving is 30.
The filmmaker’s vehicle was seized and he was asked to appear before the Erramanzil court on Tuesday.
Ravi took to Twitter on Saturday claiming that he is a teetotaller and is on a diet. He tweeted, “I’m on a diet n I don’t drink. :) it’s blown out of proportion.” He further added, “I’m at home very much n the news of arrest and all is just a media blow up. Thank u. I’m a teetotaller.”
Traffic police officials were amused by Ravi’s claims. “If he is a teetotaller, how did the breath-analyser show a reading of 41? And why didn’t he protest at the time of booking?” a senior traffic police official said.
Ravi has directed Wanted starring Gopichand and Deeksha Seth.
