Elections 2014: BJP faces Election Commission flak on manifesto

The EC made it clear that broadcasting of manifesto “could be an issue”

New Delhi: Confusion continues over the release of the BJP’s manifesto on April 7, with the Election Commission indicating on Friday that broadcast/telecast of the function could be an “issue” since “at the time of release, voting will be in progress” in some parts of the country.

The EC made it clear that while the release of the manifesto itself was not a violation of the Model Code of Conduct, its broadcast “could be an issue”.

Undeterred by such “hyper-technical issues”, the BJP on Friday not only officially declared that it would release the manifesto on April 7, but it also issued a “chargesheet” targeting the Congress-led UPA, accusing it of “giving the country a dark decade in governance”.
