Babri Masjid demolition; BJP seeks ban on sting operation content

CBI downplays sting operation, says investigation completed
New Delhi: The BJP, rattled by Cobrapost’s sting on the demolition of the disputed Ayodhya structure, urged the Election Commission on Friday to stop its publication/telecast, and ban its contents being made public.
The sting claims an investigation has established that the demolition was not an act of “frenzied mobs” but that the “sabotage” was secretly planned by “saffron outfits” to ensure no government agency got wind of it.
CBI sources, however, said late Friday that the sting had “no evidentiary value” as the agency’s investigation was completed.
Attacking the sting as a “Congress operation,” BJP chief media coordinator Ravi Shankar Prasad said Cobrapost was “Congress-post” and used by it to divert attention from issues like price rise and corruption on which the BJP was contesting the election.
Writing to the EC shortly before Cobrapost was to hold a press conference, the BJP sought a ban on its contents being made public.
“We had in the morning spoken to the EC that an NGO named Cobrapost is planning to show a sponsored sting on the sensitive Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid issue. Its telecast and publication be immediately barred,” BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said.
