Too late to quit, cadre tells Kavuri
Rajamudry: The resignation of senior Congress leader and Union minister for textiles Kavuri Sambasiva Rao from the ministership failed to evoke much response among his supporters at Eluru Parliamentary segment as they call his decision too late.
The Union minister tendered his resignation to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh at New Delhi in protest against the way the process of Andhra Pradesh bifurcation was carried out to carve out a separate Telangana state and without addressing the concerns of the people from the Seemandhra region.
In this backdrop, some of his supporters were not enthusiastic about Mr Sambasiva Rao quitting the post and opined that it would have been done much before the Congress leadership took a decision on division so that the people would have trusted his commitment on the issue. Moreover, the ex-minister is continuing as a Congress MP.
A good number of his supporters have already switched loyalty to other parties, including the Telugu Desam and the YSR Congress.
Mr Sambasiva Rao was pressurised earlier to join the Telugu Desam. But, he faced a stiff resistance from the TDP leaders including Maganti Babu when there was speculation that he intended to contest from the Eluru segment representing the TDP.
The former minister admitted that he met BJP president Rajnath Singh but did not elaborate further whether he was planning to join BJP. Mr Sambasiva Rao also said that he got invites from other political parties too.
