Elections 2014: No breakthrough yet in TDP-BJP seat share talks
Hyderabad: The much-anticipated breakthrough in the BJP-Telugu Desam alliance talks did not come even on Thursday as both sides stuck to their guns on the number of seats as well as constituencies.
While TD president N. Chandrababu Naidu held a marathon politburo meeting and sought the opinion of party leaders on seats that could be given to the BJP, G. Kishan Reddy, the Telangana BJP president, said that his side had left the decision to the BJP’s Central leadership.
“There should be amicable settlement between two parties (on seat sharing). We haven’t achieved a breakthrough. We are thinking about all aspects since any hasty decision could lead to serious problems,” Mr Naidu said.
Calling the BJP-TD seat sharing talks “a sensitive issue,” Mr Naidu refused to divulge any details.
TD sources said the discussions would continue on Friday.
Telugu Desam is opposed to the idea of letting go of the sitting Assembly and Parliament seats along with some other seats as it feels it could win them easily. But the BJP is in no mood to listen either.
Mr Naidu also convened a press conference to launch an attack on Dr K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao for his alleged involvement in mining scam.
“YSR and Dr K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao have brought shame to the country. YSR rule was full of scams. Besides YSR and KVP, a third person, who is supposed to be a close relative of YSR, is also involved. Is that Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy?” he asked.
