Outer Ring Road toll charges to go up as , HMDA proposes hike

Toll in some expressways is likely to be hiked by almost 40 per cent

Hyderabad: Outer Ring Road users will have to pay more to use the expressway as HMDA has revised toll charges. The hike would vary from one stretch to another, depending on vehicles.

The toll for some of the most used expressways from Shamirpet to Shamshabad, Pedda Ambeerpet to Patancheru are likely to be hiked by 40 per cent, while others may be hiked by 20-30 per cent, say the authorities.

Almost 32,000 vehicles use the 119 completed stretches of ORR daily. However, figures show an increase in toll tax mainly for heavy vehicles. According to authorities, the revised charge will be rounded off to the nearest round figure.

If the current fee on a certain stretch is Rs10, and if the revised charge amounts to Rs13, then the commuter will be charged Rs10. But if the revised charge amounts to Rs16, then the new toll tax fee will be Rs 20. The revision of user fee by three per cent each year for the ORR is based on the rates prescribed in the National Highway Fee (Determi-nation of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008 issued by the Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport & Highway.

On stretches that are opened for traffic on the ORR, the toll charges were being collected at the 17 interchanges of Pedda Amberpet, Bonguluru, Raviryal, Tukkuguda, Pedda Golkonda, Shamshabad, Rajendranagar, APPA, Kokapet, Nankramguda, Edulanagulapally, Patancheru, Sultanpur, Dundigal, ramp near Medchal substation, ramp near Kandlakoya and Shamirpet. The new toll charges will be posted at all interchanging junctions.
