Elections 2014: Telengana Rashtriya Samiti to fight polls alone for first time

Survey reports indicate a good show by the party in the ensuing polls

Hyderabad: Barring a last minute surprise, the TRS, for the first time, is all set to go it alone in the 2014 general elections.

It is a calculated risk that the party is taking and survey reports indicate a good show by the party in the ensuing Assembly and Lok Sabha polls.

Party chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao had focused on the Telengana movement for the last 14 years and has finally achieved his goal, but in the process he has ignored the party’s organisational setup in 10 districts, especially in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy, which is scaring the party men.

While it spurned the Congress’ alliance offer, the party also ignored CPI which had sought 22 Assembly and 3 Lok Sabha seats, leaving TRS alone in the first crucial elections after bifurcation.

Though Mr Rao has ruled out an alliance as of now, both the Congress and TRS delaying the announcement of party candidates and chances of an alliance with the CPI has given some hope to the party men.

“Congress has delayed announcement of its first list of candidates. CPI has not rejected the alliance. But we are prepared to go alone,” said TRS leader Etela Rajender. He exuded confidence that alliance or no alliance, the people of Telangana were pinning their hopes on TRS and would ensure a big win for the party.
