New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party fielded Supreme Court lawyer Ajay Aggarwal against Congress President Sonia Gandhi from Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh.
Rae Bareli constituency is another family bastion, which was once represented by Indira and now by Sonia Gandhi.
The decision was taken after BJP's Central Election Committee held under the presidentship of Rajnath Singh. The meeting was attended by veteran leader LK Advani, Venkaiah Naidu, Arun Jaitley and other members of CEC of the BJP.
Reportedly, BJP’s candidate from Jhansi, Uma Bharti was speculated to fight against Ms Gandhi. Even Baba Ramdev proposed her name, but BJP ruled it out.
Now all eyes are set on the Congress putting up a contender against BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in Varanasi.
