Cops alert for toy plane attack
NEW DELHI: Ten days before Uttar Pradesh goes to the polls, the state police has issued a specific alert of an air-borne strike on political rallies using toys.
The alert specifies that toy planes and helicopters could be used to attack leaders of the BJP, Congress, Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and other political parties as they hold rallies across the state.
“We have an alert stating that toy planes and helicopters, which are operated by remote control, could be used to attack political rallies,” a police officer said.
“We have been directed to check toy shops situated in all the districts. We would ask owners to seek customers’ identity cards before selling such toys and keep a record of the documents.”
The alert comes three days after the UP police arrested two alleged Indian Mujahideen operatives for allegedly planning an attack on BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.
Sources said that the input has been shared with the Delhi police along with all districts of Uttar Pradesh.
Sources added that apart from districts in UP, the police was checking shops situated in Delhi as well and all vehicles transporting toys across these two cities are being scrutinised at checkpoints.
UP police’s Delhi counterparts also swung into action after receiving the threat and alerted all police stations to remain vigilant.
