Aam Aadmi Party focuses on farmers in manifesto

AAP promised a separate agriculture budget with 10% of the total budget

Hyderabad: With special focus on rejuvenating agriculture in Andhra Pradesh, the Aam Aadmi Party is looking forward to cash in on the farmers’ votes by giving land titles to women farmers as well.

Promising a separate agriculture budget with 10 per cent of the total budget, the party said that it will set up Farmer’s Income Commission before the 7th Pay Commission.

“Pattas to women will be given based on inheritance laws and current land use, giving rights to lakhs of women as farmers. Recognition will be given to women farmers to ensure they get loans, subsidies and benefits,” the party manifesto read.

AAP promised an income security system to achieve a target of Rs 1,00,000 per annum to each farming household through on-farm and off-farm income.

“Andhra Pradesh has recorded 2,500 farmer suicides and this crisis is due to negligence by the government and lack of assured income from agriculture. Aam Aadmi Party will stand by the farming community and directly promise sustained incomes,” said Kirankumar Vissa, State Campaign Committee secretary and leader of AAP’s Farmers’ Wing.

The party has also proposed a special package of Rs 100 crore per district for the suicide-affected districts and support for families of the farmes who have committed suicide with Rs 3 lakh ex-gratia after the completion of investigation within three months.

The manifesto of the party also promises day-time electricity for farmers by shifting to solar pump sets and solar power and by prioritising agriculture in power supply.
