India to nail Pakistan over Indian Mujahideen backing

Tehseen Akhtar’s arrest showed an electronic trail leading to Pakistan

New Delhi-India is set to corner Pakistan as evidence mounts of the banned Indian Mujahideen (IM) getting direct patronage and help in that country.

The counter-terror operations that led to IM India operations chief Tehseen Akhtar’s arrest got a shot in the arm with the electronic trail leading to Pakistan, where Riyaz Bhatkal is hiding. A new dossier will be prepared by Central agencies on the basis of fresh evidence.

Even as the IM suffered a major blow with the recent arrests, counter-terror officials believe the terror threat from Pakistan is very much alive.

Ahead of Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s rally in Delhi on Sunday and the series of rallies planned by BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi, the Intelligence Bureau and Delhi police special cell warned law enforcement agencies that IM cadres had done a recce of prominent places already and the quantity of explosives and IEDs recovered from the recently busted module indicated that it could still carry out terror activities during the election process.

The IB has warned about the high threat faced by top leaders and said the entire electoral process must remain under a tight security cover.

“Iconic and crowded locations (in Delhi) and those belonging to the Jewish faith can be potential targets,” the IB warned in its fresh advisory.

The security agencies have been directed to beef up security at synagogues, official missions, sites frequented by Israeli tourists, vital installations, malls and shopping centres.
