I don’t follow any formula: Vikas Bahl

Mumbai: Director Vikas Bahl tells us that life has indeed changed after the success of Queen. “Earlier, if I’d have a beer during the day, people would make all sorts of comments. Now when I do that, people think it’s cool!” Vikas says, with a laugh.
The filmmaker says that success makes all things acceptable. “No one judges you. Everyone wants to be your friend. I like this phase. Thanks to the love people are showing for Queen, the hype is only increasing by the day. Like most other films, the success of Queen isn’t restricted to its weekend business,” he says.
Vikas feels that being known as a “successful director” has made him popular with the top actors in the industry. “Actors do walk up to me and ask about my upcoming films and the scripts I’m working on. I’d love to work with all of them, but for now, I’ve zeroed down on Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt for my next film,” he says.
Successful yet humble, Vikas never hides that he isn’t a trained filmmaker. “I still don’t understand the technical aspects of filmmaking,” he says. “Chillar Party and Queen were well written films and hence, managed to connect with the audience. I don’t follow any formula. I’ll only make films that have a (good) story. I don’t want to fall prey to the trend of churning out multi-crore films. I’m not here for that.”
