‘De Morgen’ created a furore over Barack and Michelle Obama’s doctored photo
Mumbai: The Belgian newspaper ‘De Morgen’ which carried an image of US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama with their faces photo-edited to resemble apes, apologised for carrying the picture, as reported in the Al Jazeera. The image was printed along with another picture of President Obama implying he sold marijuana.
The images appeared in the satire section named “The Obama Herald”, which also joked that the photos and information was sent in by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
De Morgen's editors called the image a "tasteless joke", explaining, "We wrongly assumed that racism is no longer accepted, and that in this way it could be the subject of a joke", as reported in the Al Jazeera.
