Former Andhra Pradesh chief minister K. Rosiah greets people on eve of Ugadi

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Sunday extended their Ugadi (Telugu New Year Day) greetings to people on the eve of the festival.

"On the auspicious occasion of Jaya Nama Ugadhi I convey my heartiest greetings and best wishes to the Telugu speaking people living in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and in India and across the globe," former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Rosaiah, said in a Raj Bhavan statement.

He wished that the dawn of Telugu New Year ushered in peace, progress and prosperity and promote unity and harmony among all to steer the nation to greater heights in the global arena.

Extending her greetings, Jayalalithaa said Telugu and Kannada speaking people, both of whom celebrate Ugadi, lived with Tamils in harmony in her state and wished them all success in their endeavour.

DMK chief M Karunanidhi also greeted the people and recalled that it was his party, during one of its tenures in government, that had sanctioned government holiday for the Telugu New Year.
