Elections 2014: Sitting Congress members likely to get tickets in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana
Hyderabad: The Congress high command has cleared tickets for most sitting MLAs and MPs in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states.In Telangana state, the high command has finalised candidates for all the Assembly and Lok Sabha seats.
Talking to the mediapersons in New Delhi on Saturday, AICC general secretary and state party affairs in-charge Digvijay Singh said that all candidates for the Assembly and Lok Sabha seats in Telangana state were finalised by the AICC screening committee.
He said following approval of the AICC election committee the candidates will be announced in a day or two. Some Congress leaders have requested that the announcement be made after MPTC and ZPTC elections, in which case the high may announce the names only after April 11.
The Congress high command has decided to allot Mahbubnagar Lok Sabha seat to Union minister S. Jaipal Reddy, currently represented by TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
APCC president N. Raghuveera Reddy and party senior leaders held a meeting with DCC and city Congress presidents on Saturday at Indira Bhavan and discussed the selection of candidates. Mr Raghuveera Reddy announced that all sitting MLAs in Andhra Pradesh state will be given tickets.
Meanwhile, Telangana campaign committee headed by former Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha on Saturday held a meeting at Gandhi Bhavan with Telangana PCC president Ponnala Laxmaiah.
It was decided to organise public meetings at Karimnagar, Secunderabad, Mahbubnagar, Medak, Adilabad and Nalgonda or Khammam which will be attended by AICC president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi. It was also decided to organise a bus yatra in Telangana.
