Defiant Alagiri asks supporters to defeat DMK's Theni nominee

‘Ensure Muthuramalingam goes to fourth place in the forthcoming election for Theni’

Usilampatti: Expelled DMK leader M K Alagiri on Saturday asked his supporters to work towards ensuring the defeat of the party's candidate Pon Muthuramalingam who is contesting from the Theni Lok Sabha constituency.

"Ensure that Pon Muthuramalingam goes to fourth place in the forthcoming election for Theni constituency," he told his supporters here during a visit to small rural town.

Alagiri visited this small rural town to extend his condolences to a supporter whose relative passed away.

On DMK extending an olive branch to Congress by offering to "forgive" and support it after the polls, Alagiri said he had never spoken about alliance with Congress or any other party rather it was someone in the DMK who was talking for and against the alliance with the Congress.

Alagiri's statement comes three days after his father and party chief M Karunanidhi said he was willing to accommodate Congress if it proved its secular credentials for a secular government in India.

DMK had severed ties with Congress last year and refused to renew the alliance for the April 24 Lok Sabha polls. The party had on Tuesday expelled a defiant Alagiri for refusing to abide by the party discipline.
