Sorry Obama, you cannot use an Android phone as yet

US President Barack Obama will have to continue using his Blackberry, for now

When the news of the White House testing LG and Samsung smartphones for internal communication was out, the thought of Blackberry losing its star customer was high. Well, that was not the case, at least yet.

The White House’s Communication Agency is part of the Defense department, and they are responsible for making sure that the president can communicate wherever he goes.

Blackberry has been serving the White House for almost a decade with secure communications. The US government requires very high-levels of security for its communication needs, and Blackberry was chosen for its security and cost effectiveness. Other vendors, Samsung and LG, will have to wait for a longer time to meet up with the stringent requirements and certifications that the US government demands.

On the other hand, Blackberry has been slipping into the shadows with big guns (IOS, Windows and Android phones) marketing their goods with user-friendly interfaces. Blackberry’s CEO himself is flipping a coin with regards to the company’s survival. However, they at least have a big profile and star customer at the White House.
