Maoists challenged democracy today: Narendra Modi
Ranchi: Undeterred by explosion of powerful bombs in two areas of Gaya district ahead of his election rallies, BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Thursday said that democracy prevails over the gun.
Addressing a rally in Lohardaga, Jharkhand, Modi said Maoists challenged democracy and told people not to come. “However, the rally shows how democracy prevails over the gun,” he added.
Lotus must shine on all 14 seats here, Modi exhorted.
Hitting out at Congress, Modi told people not to forget that Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru mocked the idea of creation of Jharkhand. “It was Atal ji who gave us Jharkhand,” said Modi.
Rebuking former environment minister Jayanthi Natrajan, Modi said: “You must have heard about sales tax etc, but in Delhi there was 'Jayanti tax'.”
“Under 'Jayanti tax', people used to pay bribe under the table for environment clearances,” said Modi.
Underlining that corruption can certainly be eliminated, Modi raised the issue of poverty in Jharkhand.
“Coal mines are shut. People are jobless. Power plants are shut. The state is power scarce.”
Modi noted that Jharkhand is poor despite being rich in natural resources and slammed Centre's policies.
About one hundred Maoists gathered in two areas of Gaya district and blew up two mobile towers of a private company by exploding powerful bombs at Manjhauli and Dumaria Bazar villages late Wednesday night, Superintendent of Police Nishant Tewari said.
Modi is scheduled to address two election rallies at Maoist-hit Sasaram and Gaya in Bihar this afternoon.
