BJP calls Congress manifesto a ‘joke’

Country saw better growth under UPA than NDA regime, says PM

New Delhi: Describing the Congress’ election manifesto as a “joke” and a “document of deceit”, the BJP on Wednesday claimed the “entire manifesto appears to be devoid of credibility, bereft of substance and lacking in seriousness”.

While the CPI(M) termed Congress’ claims of taking steps to reduce inflation and ensuring safety of women in its poll document as an act of “misadventure”, the CPI termed the document a “desperate attempt” by Congress to “hoodwink the people”.

“Manifestos are sacrosanct but today’s Congress manifesto was a joke. It repeated all the promises they haven’t been able to fulfil since 2004,” BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi tweeted. Alleging that the Congress’ document is a “rank insult” to the people of the country, senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said as the ruling party has made lofty promises at the time of departing and accused it of not fulfilling what it pledged during the past 10 years.

The BJP also attacked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi for leading the country to the path of declining economy and for not acting against corruption. Attacking the Congress over corruption, he said the Adarsh scam and Ashok Chavan have become its adarsh (role model).
CPM politburo member Brinda Karat tweeted: “They (Congress) are claiming to reduce inflation even as prices go through the roof. It is an act of misadventure for them.”
