Hyderabad: A woman employed by the Medak municipal office killed her two children and attempted suicide along with her mother by jumping into a lake in Medak on Wednesday.
While her 60 year old mother drowned, N. Shyamala survived and was shifted to a government hospital.
Shyamala, 30, had left a 10-page suicide note in her home before she poisoned her children and attempted to take her own life. The police said Shyamala was involved in cheating cases in Medak and owed people lot of money. The children, N. Nandi Keshav, 5, and 7 year old N. Sapana, were found dead in their home, while the body of their grandmother N. Rajamani was recovered by local swimmers.
According to Medak police, on Wednesday morning, Shyamala fed her children poison mixed in their food. “After they died, she told her mother that they have no way to live anymore. They went to the nearby lake and jumped into the water,” said Medak circle inspector Vijay Kumar.
Shyamala shouted for help and was heard by some construction workers in the area who rushed to the lake and rescued her. They were too late to rescue her mother. Medak police said that Shyamala, who works as an attender in the municipal office, had cheated 15 people by promising them jobs in exchange for money. After cases were booked against her, her husband abandoned her.
Police has booked a case against her for murder and abetment of suicide.
