Gun and suicide attack on Afghan poll body headquaters
Kabul: Militants launched a gun and suicide attack on an Afghan election commission office in Kabul on Tuesday, police said, less than two weeks before the presidential poll.
The Taliban have vowed a campaign of violence to disrupt the ballot on April 5, urging their fighters to attack polling staff, voters and security forces in the runup to election day.
Afghan security forces were still battling insurgents at an office of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) in the western Darulaman area of the Afghan capital more than four hours after the attack began. Another attack was also reported.
Meanwhile, the Afghan spy agency on Tuesday accused its Pakistani intelligence counterparts of involvement in planning an attack on a Kabul hotel that killed nine people.
