Elections 2014: CPM threatens to snap ties with CPI
Hyderabad: The CPM has warned the CPI that it will snap ties with the latter if it forges an alliance with the Congress. The CPM leadership is upset with CPI leader Dr K. Narayana for holding alliance talks with Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Ponnala Laxmaiah though it did not object to talks with TRS.
“We don’t have any objection if the CPI forges an alliance with the TRS. But if it forges an alliance with the Congress, we will snap ties,” said Mr Tammineni Veerabhadram, secretary of the Telangana unit of the CPM.
He added, “We expect the CPI to maintain its distance from the Congress. I am confident CPI will do it. We plan to contest from 17 Assembly and four Lok Sabha seats, but seats would be adjusted depending on the alliance.”
The CPM has decided to work with parties opposed to the Congress and the BJP in the country or go alone. In the state, the CPI and the CPM had agreed to work together in the ensuing polls.
Mr Veerabhadram was participating in a meet-the-press programme organised by Telangana Union of Working Journalists here.
“Newly-formed Telangana is besieged with several problems and a lot of effort is needed to develop the backward region. Welfare, social justice, integrated development and close cooperation with Andhra Pradesh will ensure rapid development,” he added.
