Hyderabad: Launching a scathing attack on TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao on his home turf, Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday said though he may not be CM of the new Telangana state, he would always strive for development of the region as chief of the TDP.
Mr Naidu has promised to make a Backward Class candidate CM of the new Telangana state if his party was voted to power. He was speaking at the party’s Praja Garjana in Mahbubnagar, about 100 km from Hyderabad.
Describing the TRS as a “byelection party”, Mr Naidu said Mr Rao and his family were taking the people for a ride for their own selfish gain.
“A vote for the TRS is like jumping from the frying pan into the fire. I want to provide jobs to one in every family, KCR plans to give jobs to his family members, son, daughter, nephew etc. TDP will come to power in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. First Telangana CM will be a Backward Class and he will implement the promises,” he declared.
He added, “I will be here to banish poverty, develop both the states of Telangana and AP which are like my two eyes. Even if I am not the CM (of Telangana), I will head the TDP and develop both the states.”
For a change, Mr Naidu raised ‘Jai Telangana, Jai Andhra Pradesh’ slogans at the fag end of the meeting. He had earlier committed the faux pas of saying ‘Jai Telangana, Jai Samaikyandhra’, and had to quickly correct himself. He recalled his open challenge to Mr Rao for a debate on development and claimed that the latter ran away.
Meanwhile, Alampur Congress MLA Abraham joined the TDP after criticising D.K. Aruna.
